چکیده

An environmental friendly palm-grease has already been formulated from modified RBDPO (Refined Bleach Deodorized Palm Oil) as base oil and lithium soap as thickener. Such palm-grease is dedicated for general application and or equipment working in areas where biodegradability is required such as in agriculture, forestry and coastal marine, recreation areas. The grease was manufactured via 4 steps of processes: saponification in pressurized reactor, soap dilution by heating, re-crystallization by cooling and homogenization. The result of lubrication performance tests using 4-ball wear-test showed that the amount of wear on ball specimen was smaller in test with the palmgrease than the test with mineral (HVI 160S) grease. This ability of the palm-grease to provide better surface protection or antiwear property was considered as the existence of relatively polar groups in base oil such as ester -COOC-, hydroxides –OH and oxirane ring (epoxy) -COC-.

Antiwear and Extreme Pressure Additives for Greases

Twenty-nine additives were evaluated for their antiwear and extreme pressure properties when incorporated in various percentages in lithium soap-mineral oil greases. The percentages of the principal antiwear and extreme pressure inducing elements: sulfur, chlorine, phosphorus and lead were determined. The most promising ones were further evaluated in commercialgreases and in inorganic thickened...

Effect of Ethylene Glycol as Pore Former on Polyphenylsulfone Hollow Fiber Membrane for Crude Palm Oil Deacidification through Membrane Contactor

In this study, polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) hollow fiber membrane was fabricated via a wet spinning method with the addition of ethylene glycol (EG) in the range of 0-10 wt% as the additive. The EG was added to improve the membrane pore formation and interconnectivity for better membrane contactor performance in extracting and removing the free fatty acid (FFA) from crude palm oil (CPO). Four diffe...

The Use of D-Optimal Mixture Design in Optimising Okara Soap Formulation for Stratum Corneum Application

Okara, soybean waste from tofu and soymilk production, was utilised as a natural antioxidant in soap formulation for stratum corneum application. D-optimal mixture design was employed to investigate the influence of the main compositions of okara soap containing different fatty acid and oils (virgin coconut oil A (24-28% w/w), olive oil B (15-20% w/w), palm oil C (6-10% w/w), castor oil D (15-2...

Friction and wear behavior of thioether hydroxy vegetable oil

This work describes the tribochemical evaluation of vegetable oil based antiwear additive obtained through chemical modification. The Sulfur was incorporated using a chemical reaction of epoxidized vegetable oil and common thiols, resulting in formation of a hydroxy thioether derivative of vegetable oils. The synthesis retains the vegetable oil structure, eliminates poly-unsaturation in the mol...

Fatty acids and antioxidant effects on grease microstructures

The search for biobased material as industrial and automotive lubricants has accelerated in recent years. This trend is primarily due to the nontoxic and biodegradable characteristics of seed oils that can substitute mineral oil as base fluid in grease making. The paper discusses the preparation of lithium soap-based soy greases using different fatty acids and the determination of crystallite s...
